The David Mamet Celebration continues with an intimate and razor sharp double feature at A.R.T.’s Zero Arrow theater.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first visit to A.R.T’s second location, but I was quite impressed with how they had done away with traditional seating and instead seated me in a cabaret style setting and provided me with some very charming companions for the evening. I can only hope they forgive my embarrassing manner. They were far too good to me, and I can’t thank t...

It was a full-on sensory experience to be at the Liberty Hotel last night. The newly renovated venue was beautiful. The swanky atmosphere, chic decor, and the highly impressive architecture of the hotel made me feel very far away from the usual Boston scene. The promised fashion show consisted of leggy female models with tousled hair, sky-high stilettos, and oversized men’s shirts. Women as object and shirts as subjects—a cute idea but the underlying marketing scheme analyzed as a former s...

I finally got to see Drag Me To Hell today after my plans to see it opening day quickly fell through the hands of pretty much anyone I asked to come. While I have no qualms whatsoever with seeing a film on my own, I typically enjoy making commentary during a film which doesn't work well alone. Big ups for Joey B for joining me.
Now then, Drag Me To Hell is the newest film written by and Directed by Sam Raimi. You may know Raimi from such feature films as the Spider-Man trilogy, For The Lo...

It’s a sunny Sunday morning and I just landed in the city of Angeles. But, before I do anything, I head over to the famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. It was a long wait in line, but the grub was worth the wait. When we finally get our table I ordered an enormous chicken breast, golden crisp, along with collard greens and yams that, disappeared right before my eyes. Now that I got that out of the way I’m ready to explore the nightlife scene. At my friends place, a tropical looking oa...

If pastries were a religion, Mike would be the Pope. Mike’s dessert is Law, ruling over Boston from his cathedral in the North End. Under the light of Mike’s Cannoli all other sweets will turn to dust in your mouth. The chocolate covered ones are the best.
Mike’s is my number one place for taking people new to the city (like myself). Nothing beats the Cannoli, and everyone wants to know where those white and blue boxes tied up with string come from. The North End’s historic areas pull in...

While on tour with her father over the summer, Natasa Kojic had the opportunity to audition for Berklee College of Music, and got in. "I remember while I was touring every single day flights to different states," said Kojic. "I told myself 'Natasa, if you get it, it means you have to go. I was tired of everything fake in show business and dreamed about my hobby: composing-movie music in the States. When I got it, I told myself 'Focus, and go for it!'" Despite tabloid articles and rumors about he...

The annual Hot Dog Safari was an extravaganza of hotdogs, but hotdogs were thankfully far from the only attraction. It’s with a heavy heart that I say thankfully, because despite the involvement of local restaurants and the Phantom Gourmet the hotdogs were more or less the same from booth to booth. Well, except for the Chop Suey hotdogs, but I have my limits. Now I like a good hotdog as much as the next guy (all 30,000 of them), but I guess I was hoping for something a little more exotic. Can’t ...

El Presidente put on the biggest Barstool bash yet at Ned Devine’s last Thursday night with a scandalous Naughty Nurse contest, pulling out all the stops to impress a certain someone amongst the wide-eyed crowd of many men – Mr. McGillicuty. With a very 007-eqsue appeal, Mr. McGillicuty has recently become a new sponsor of Barstool Sports and El Presidente and the boys had to present a flawless evening.
Although I have been to many, this Barstool event was first for me – I had backstage a...

A lewd, crass and crude equal opportunity offender, the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T) production of David Mamet’s “Romance” has nothing to do with roses or boxes of chocolates.
Set in a courthouse, the story follows a gay prosecutor (Thomas Derrah), a Jewish defendant (Remo Airaldi), a Catholic defense lawyer (Jim True Frost) and a judge suffering from Hay Fever (Will Lebow) in the midst of a Middle Eastern peace conference.
While this sounds like a stand-up comed...
